Club Brugge rejected an offer of up to 20 million euros for midfielder Romeo Vermant. This happened on August 31, 2026, which also revealed the player's notable absence before the derby. Vermant even stayed away from the training pitch for two days ahead of the match against city rivals Cercle, a game Club Brugge eventually won 9-0.
The exact reason for Romeo Vermant's two-day absence from training is not fully clarified. It happened in the build-up to the clash with Cercle. Despite his time away from the pitch, Club Brugge played a historically strong match and secured a massive victory. The club's leadership nevertheless decided to turn down a major transfer offer for the player, indicating confidence in his future value. The team's current form is excellent, sitting second in the Jupiler Pro League with nine points from four games and a +6 goal difference.
The refusal for Vermant fits a consistent pattern of strong transfer policy at Club Brugge this summer. The club previously also turned down a 35 million euro bid for attacker Nicolò Tresoldi. Also, the club is demanding around 10 million euros for the 18-year-old Bisiwu. On the other side of the ledger, contracts were extended, like that of Vetlesen, and the 18-year-old Andrej Vasovic was signed. Goalkeeper Yann Sommer also chose Club Brugge and Knokke-Heist.
The Club Brugge squad is young and promising, with players like 17-year-old Wisdom Mike. Management is now considering extending Romeo Vermant's contract after retaining him. The depth and quality are also shown in the statistics: the club is second, three points behind leaders Charleroi, and has scored eight goals in four league matches. The next challenge is an away game against Lommel United, currently in eighth place, on September 4. Fans can follow the preparations via our squad overview and the standings.
With a strong foundation and rejected transfers, Club Brugge is focusing on the next matches. The 9-0 derby win provided a huge confidence boost. The team must maintain this momentum in a busy period. The next test is against Lommel United, an important match in the title race. All upcoming fixtures can be found on our fixtures page. The focus is on maintaining second place and closing the gap to Charleroi, where squad depth will be key.
