Club Brugge had a promising start to the competition against KV Kortrijk, but also saw a new fan favorite emerge. Lee Hanbeom received loud support from the Bruges supporters when he was in possession of the ball. 'Lee, Lee, Lee', was heard from the stands as he approached the ball.

What's going on?

Lee Hanbeom is the new fan favorite of Club Brugge, but his name causes confusion. The defender was born as Lee, but his first name is Hanbeom. In Korean names, the family name is traditionally placed before the first name. The supporters are therefore actually calling the family name of the defender.

Why is Hanbeom on his shirt?

When looking at the shirt of the newcomer, you see no 'Lee' on the back. Instead, there's 'Hanbeom' prominently displayed. Club Brugge received questions about this and press officer Kirsten Willem provided clarity. 'He chose to play with his first name on his shirt. So we respected that', Willem said.

Club Brugge sets mistake right

The confusion around Lee Hanbeom seems to have been completely cleared up. What remains is that the defender has built a strong bond with the Bruges supporters in a remarkably short time. If his performances on the pitch remain as impressive as the reception on the stands, Club Brugge has a new fan favorite.
