Club Brugge Continues to Target Premier League Talent

Club Brugge has been actively shopping for new players and recently set its sights on Crystal Palace’s Romain Esse. The 21-year-old flankaanvaller, who is currently under contract until June 2030 with the London club, is a prime target for the Belgian side.

Club Brugge initially offered around eight million euros plus two million in bonuses to secure Esse's services. However, Crystal Palace rejected this proposal, although discussions between the clubs are still ongoing. Sacha Tavolieri, a journalist known for his exclusive reports on Belgian football, reported that Club Brugge’s initial offer was turned down by Crystal Palace.

Personal Agreement Already Reached

Despite the rejection of their first bid, Club Brugge has already reached an agreement with Romain Esse regarding personal terms. This means that if a financial deal can be struck, Esse could make his debut for Jan Breydel Stadium in the upcoming season. The young player would thus embark on his first adventure outside England, having only previously played for English clubs.

Crystal Palace Holds Firm on Price

Esse’s contract with Crystal Palace runs until June 2030, which gives the club some flexibility to hold out for a better deal. Transfermarkt values Esse at ten million euros, aligning closely with Club Brugge's initial offer. For Club Brugge, acquiring Esse would be beneficial as he can play on both flanks and has significant growth potential.

Other Targets in the Pipeline

Club Brugge is also considering other players from English football, such as Edmund Baidoo and Noah Adedeji-Sternberg of KRC Genk. However, negotiations with these players have been challenging. Crystal Palace's firm stance on Esse means that Club Brugge may need to either increase their offer or adjust the bonus structure to secure his transfer.

Esse’s Background and Prospects

Romain Esse began his career at Millwall, where he broke into the first team. He later moved to Crystal Palace in January 2025, making 17 appearances with one goal and one assist. His international experience includes playing for England's U21 team, adding further appeal to Club Brugge’s interest.

The transfer saga continues as Club Brugge seeks a new flankaanvaller who can contribute to their attacking lineup this season. The club will need to decide how much they are willing to invest financially in securing Esse’s services.
