Club Brugge will move to a brand new stadium in the summer of 2029, a project costing approximately 200 million euros. The news was confirmed on September 7, 2026, by president Bart Verhaeghe in a report by HLN Voetbal, with Niels Poissonnier as football chief.
The construction of the stadium, which will have a capacity of 40,116 seats, is expected to take 2.5 years. The opening is planned for the 2029-2030 season. Initial utility work will start in November or December of this year, with the main construction phase beginning in January. Verhaeghe stressed the pace: "Sneller kan niet" (It can't go faster).
The design features a striking architectural element: a 'floating roof'. This roof is suspended and attached to the sides of the structure. "We want to do it thoroughly," said Verhaeghe. "And what you shouldn't underestimate: we have chosen a slightly more expensive roof." This choice contributes to the total investment, which is fully borne by the club itself without government financial support.
The current home, the Jan Breydel Stadium, requires increasingly high maintenance costs. Keeping the stadium operational costs about one million euros annually. The investment in a new, modern complex is therefore a logical, albeit expensive, strategic move for the club's future. It comes at a time when Club Brugge is performing well in the league. The blue and blacks currently sit third in the Jupiler Pro League with 12 points from 5 games, just three points behind leaders Gent. The team has a goal difference of +7, with 9 scored and 2 conceded. Their recent form is WLWWW.
The announcement comes in the middle of a busy season. The team is preparing for its next home fixture, against Antwerp on September 13, 2026. Antwerp currently sits tenth in the table. Fans can follow the full schedule and the current standings on the club site. The financial commitment for the stadium shows the board's long-term vision, even as they compete for the title now.
After the preparatory utility works later this year, the main construction begins in January. The project follows a tight schedule to meet the summer 2029 deadline. Meanwhile, the focus remains firmly on the pitch. The squad, which fans can view on the squad page, must convert the strong league start into lasting success. The final concrete step before construction is the start of groundworks in a few months.
